I noticed Romer on TV saying that GOVERNMENT health care costs will go down with the bill. I also remember somewhere the government projecting health care costs will continue to rise, but at a slower pace.
So if costs are still rising, but government costs will go down, that must mean someone else will bear the rising costs.
Not very nice when the wind picks up which is quite often the case. Not very healthy at all.
Depends on how much traffic there is. I live 1/2 mile from the nearest paved road in a place with ferocious winds, but it is not really a problem because the neighborhood is small and not a through route.
I say if they do pass this health care bill in protest everyone should stop paying their mortgages ( not that they are paying now ) and so on and so fourth, hell they want to crash this economy in less than 4 years with this passage why not speed things along, and pay for nothing....should be good for 6 months or so.

No, not really. The problem in Pahrump and many other places in Nevada is that the dust gets thrown into the air by any car that drives by. The dust is quite unhealthy which is why there are so many rules in Nevada regarding dust control.
The recent population growth has created intensive development. Large parcels of land have been cleared of vegetation, subdivided and prepared for housing construction. Dirt and gravel roads were constructed. Many of the planned housing developments never materialized and the lots are now disturbed, vacant areas.
Former farm land continues to be developed for housing at the highest rate in the state. Several major housing developments are currently under construction and will eventually provide over 10,000 new homes in the valley. As a result of the disturbed, vacant land and the number of dirt and gravel roads, fugitive dust (Particulate Matter less than 10 microns or PM10) became a problem. The Pahrump valley is subject to high winds and these winds often create dust storms. Even the slightest wind can pick up dust from the disturbed areas, where it can become a health hazard.
vacant land
Citizen complaints in the late 90's led to the installation of an ambient air monitor in the downtown area. The Bureau of Air Quality Planning (BAQP) has been monitoring the ambient air quality in the Town of Pahrump since January 2001. The monitor records ambient air data continuously and can be downloaded to the BAQP office in Carson City. Twenty seven (27) exceedances of the National 24-hour ambient air standard were recorded during 2001, 2002 and 2003. Under the Federal Clean Air Act (CAA), these exceedances mean that Pahrump is no longer attaining the 24-hour standard (the Federal and State ambient air quality standard for PM10 is 150 ug/m3 and the annual standard is 50 ug/m3.)
The dust is quite unhealthy which is why there are so many rules in Nevada regarding dust control.

No, just plain old airborne particulates. This is one of those "dirty" secrets. For all the work we've done on cleaning the air one place we've lagged despite the evidence is particulates.
That has really never come up. Oldtimers talk about DDT in the dust and other old farm residue. All I can say from personal experience that if you are in any way susceptible to respiratory problems, avoid places like Pahrump like the plague.

March 18 (Bloomberg) -- Congressional leaders are raising to 3.8 percent their proposed new Medicare tax on investment income in the final health-care overhaul plan, a Democratic leadership aide said.
The rate is higher than the 2.9 percent President Barack Obama proposed in February. Under Obama’s proposal, the new tax would apply to income from interest, dividends, annuities, royalties, capital gains, and rents for individuals who earn more than $200,000 and joint filers reporting more than $250,000.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, asked today if the tax applied to capital gains, said it would be imposed on unearned income “whatever category it is.”
It would be the first time Medicare taxes would cover investment income. The current 2.9 percent Medicare levy currently applies only to salaries and is split evenly between workers and their employees.

The world looks at China with envy. China’s economy grew 8.7 percent last year, while the world economy contracted by 2.2 percent. It seems that Chinese “Confucian capitalism” – a market economy powered by 1.3 billion people and guided by an authoritarian regime that can pull levers at will – is superior to our touchy-feely democracy and capitalism. But the grass on China’s side of the fence is not as green as it appears.
In fact, China’s defiance of the global recession is not a miracle – it’s a superbubble. When it deflates, it will spell big trouble for all of us.
To understand the Chinese economy, consider three distinct periods: “Late-stage growth obesity” (the decade prior to 2008); “You lie!” (the time of the financial crisis); and finally, “Steroids ’R’ Us” (from the end of the financial crisis to today).

The two powers grope for a new normal.
The fault lines in the U.S.-China relationship have been increasingly exposed in recent weeks, with rhetorical barbs exchanged on: trade; the treatment of foreign companies in China; strategic issues such as U.S. support of Taiwan and Tibet's Dalai Lama; responses to Iran's nuclear ambitions; and especially exchange rates. Domestic consensus in the U.S. on the need for action with regard to the renminbi (RMB) is growing. Chinese leaders, including Premier Wen Jiabao, have recently hit back at the U.S. for what they characterize as interference in China's security and economic affairs, and U.S. economic mismanagement.
Today we examine the quest for the new normal between the world's largest creditor and its largest debtor. (More)

The Constitution is an amazing document. It's single most salient feature (IMHO) is that it is explicitly a circumscribing body of law and not a foundation for more laws. That's why the FF knew they needed to explicitly say the Houses were empowered to write their own rules.
As debt supply increases, yield (demand) should be going down, but instead, the increased supply of distorted Zimbabwe-like inflation is being rolled into future instruments that have no value .... am I missing something?

The timing is gonna be tricky but I'm going to try and match her moaning with the cannons of the 1812 Overture. There is a bar in ocean city, maryland that during the summer plays the 1812 and times the cannons with the sunset over the sound.

Sorry to go OT here, but I've steadfastly avoided reading much about this health care bill.
Until I saw this today. Wow, that is a substantial new tax. Does this effectively raise taxes on those earning above the cutoff by 3.8%?
Health Bill Said to Add 3.8% Tax on Unearned Income (Update1) - BusinessWeek

Mr Beach
you are correct, the dems are voting to raise a tax on un earned income, and i support it
last year.. all...my income was "unearned" ie interest etc and i support this tax
mock turtle wrote:
That's fine. Should the public vote be everyone with a supermajority or a simple 50%+1 vote among those subject to the tax?
yes i believe you did by.... implication
you jumped in...and thats cool
and said first show us where these benefits are a right then we'll show you filibuster in the constitution
no? you didnt imply that ?...hmmm maybe im mistaken?

i dont know when the tax takes effect
my guess is soon, the dems were desperate to make this bill revenue positive so some of the taxes preeceed the benefits and i think (guess) this was one, ill check

I believe you are referring to this:
