Did you notice the mention in the article about less home equity extraction to finance big-ticket items such as cars? It looks to me like the next several years will be spent paying for the stuff we purchased on credit in the past rather than buying new stuff. Makes me glad I am working in a cheese factory with booming orders.

I think it's obvious now how this ties into housing, though I'm not sure why it isn't obvious to BusinessWeek.
But what I find more interesting is an apparent bifurcation of the economy into a declining consumer economy and a still healthy corporate economy.
Is this some new fundamental division emerging, or is this maybe how recessions begin?
