Prompt Corrective Action - a LAW, not a suggestion - is supposed to prevent this outcome. It is being wantonly and willfully ignored by the OTS, OCC, The FDIC and CONGRESS.
This level of loss is unconscionable and Sheila Bair, along with everyone involved in bank regulation at The Fed and the various Treasury departments (OTS, OCC and FDIC) must be held to account for their willful and intentional blindness.
"Mark to Myth" is not just a myth, it is a willful and intentional lie.

How in the world did FDIC/FSLIC have the staff to close >40 banks in one week?
Most of them were single branch banks - the laws back then severly restricted branching outside a city or county, so a banking company that failed may have had 10-15 separate bank charters - one for each location. Now, with multi state branching you might have one bank fail that has 10 or more branches. It really is not an apples to apples comparison
............geeze............Is this also youtube Friday?.........I go away to do chores and you'all are drunk in the barn when I get back........and the pathetic part is it's the 80's...........
DENVER – The mother of the 6-year-old boy once feared missing inside a runaway helium balloon admitted the whole saga was a hoax, according to court documents released Friday.
Mayumi Heene told sheriff's deputies that she and her husband Richard "knew all along that Falcon was hiding in the residence" in Fort Collins, according to an affidavit used to get a search warrant for the home.
She allegedly told investigators the incident was a hoax meant to make them more marketable to the media.
"Mayumi described that she and Richard Heene devised this hoax approximately two weeks earlier.... She and Richard had instructed their three children to lie to authorities as well as the media regarding this hoax," the affidavit said.
As of 8:19 central, Bank Failures was the "top story" on the "Reuters" section of the NYTimes web site. It also says Sen Reid wants to extend the homebuyer credit.
Back to the question on the highest number of bank failures in a day - Colonial had over 300 branches, all under one charter. Back in the 80's they would have had a few hundred charters due to branch restrictions. If we counted them that way, we would probably be close to 1,000 failures this year.
Has anyone noticed that not only are there 7 failures, but not one of them was part of a "loss sharing agreement" with another bank? All in for the FDIC! Have we run out of banks who have the ability to take over the assets of these losers or is it that there are no more banks willing to do it? And Hillcrest? That should put Denninger in the hospital with a fit of apoplexy. What was it running on, fumes? If this is an indication of how far the FDIC will let banks go, we are in a world of hurt.
It seems like the rate of bank takeovers is accelerating at a great rate. 7 times 52 is 364. In the last 42 weeks we have had 99. I am surprised that Calculated Risks does not have a trend chart for this issue. It seems that banks are failing currently at almost 3 times the weekly average. Is the FDIC finally weeding out the smaller regional banks now?
