South Carolina recorded the nation's fourth-highest personal income growth during the first three months of this year, the Bureau of Economic Analysis reported today.
The state saw total personal income increase .2 percent in the first quarter, compared to the last three months of 2008.
National average fell .5 percent in first quarter.
Total personal income in the state was $143 billion. Personal income measures the total amount of money received by all people in the state. That income includes regular wages, rental property receipts and unemployment payments and retiree benefits.
I was kinda worried there for a second.

I'm amazed how many people I know who have made W4 changes for the upcoming tax cycle. I'm not sure if they are planning for future tax cuts or are challenging TPTB (Does it have a glossary term yet?) to come after what little they have remaining.

Count me as one who changed my withholding for state taxes. For a few years I ended up getting a refund from NYS. Not wanting to run the risk of getting an IOU from NYS next year I changed my withholding.

When the pr0n industry moves out of CA the state is truly sunk. At least we have the economic benefits of the drug traffickers choosing CA to bring their product across the border.
If high-tech ever figures out life is cheaper in an Easterly direction that would be really bad, although Tech seems to be going to India these days. eg. Oracle apps expert in the US = $120k/yr India = $120k/yr for a TEAM of consultants who do actually know their stuff. I kid you not !

Early next year, after a year in office, with the green shoots undeniably dead (or identified as stinging nettle) he will have the chance to show what he's truly made of. I agree, it's now too early to give him a rating; but in 12 -18 months -- it won't be.

BTW, 'national imperative' is not a simple concept. The involvement in Vietnam , for instance, may have been partly a logical result of the the Cuban missile crisis, in that the political elite may have learned to assume that a bluff pays if the bluffer has big shoulders.
