I've read posts on other blogs and articles that says,"oh yeah American's national debt is only 60% of GDP not a problem other countries are 120% or more in the hole". I don't agree with that. We're to big. If China was a Western style nation, with its size. Yeah, They have a never ending pile of money to loan us. We as Americans have to pay the interest on the national. Weather we pay the debt or not. Demand for gov't debt is decreasing. Interest rates have to go up to sell more debt!

GOP: "Taxing the Future"

David: I once read an article about pre-depression times that claimed one slogan to advertise consumer loans back then was "telescoping in the future".

Inversely proportional to Halliburton profits...

Keep those printing presses well oiled, we're going to need them.

I'd like to know more about the "sneaky move" in the House that lets them avoid a vote on the debt ceiling.

how can you have info on the 5 first months ? I thought we were beginning of march...

USA is a federal state.
The debt of the european commission if 0% GDP.
It would be interesting to compare the debt of federal + state + county + towns in the USA to the same thing in other countries.

"how can you have info on the 5 first months ?"

US Govt fiscal year is different than the calendar year.

Interesting points you made in this posting.

I just saw Cheney on tv trying
to convince us to start saving.
How sickning is that??

Do as I say, not as I do.

I suppose the next thing he'll do is lecture us on gun safety.

Ok, nobody has said anything about that graph being....backwards. Has everybody gone left-handed on me?
I give up, CR, why does the time scale head left? Are you stirring things up by trying to loosen our fixation on phrases like "moving forward" and "moving right along".."down right honest"..."right on target"..."right from the get go".
Is this a warning? --you gonna get left and loose?

2006 Republican platform:
We promise you more leisure
We promise you a higher credit line
We promise you not only free lunch, but breakfast and dinner too

"That's what I'm afraid of"

I agree that the reversed time scale is a tad confusing.

We promise you not only free lunch, but breakfast and dinner too

Voters reply to GOP:

Munch, munch, munch... but where's my pony?

If the Dems are the Mommy party, the GOP must be the Daddy party, sugar Daddy that is.

2006 Democratic platform:
1.
2.
3.

No foolsmate, THIS is the Dem Platform...

2006 Democratic platform:

1.To Blue State voters... we are ANTI-GOPers & Bush slayers!!!

2.To Red State voters... sorta GOP-like but 'nicer' & 'competent(?)'.

  1. To true independents... we got ponies too.

Did I miss anything?

calmo, I was a little dyslexic when I plotted that graph. I'll get it right next month!

epimethee, fiscal year 2006 started on Oct 1st, 2005 - so we are 5 months into the fiscal year. If you look at this history page of the debt (from the US Treasury), it shows the shift, under Reagan, from the fiscal year matching the calendar year to the current fiscal year.

The economist, I saw Cheney's comments. They seemed somewhat bizarre.

Best to all.

Does anyone know what percentage of the national debt is owed to foreigners?
