One of my favorite lines from Patrick O'Brien's Jack Aubrey novels is when Jack says to Steven, "That's like buying a dog and then barking at the barn door yourself."
I would be curious to know whether non-mortgage people find this understandable. I'm no longer any good at judging that.
The regulatory agencies should use Greenspan as their spokesman for this noble PR effort - sort of like how Viagra used Bob Dole. You know, a friendly face everyone knows & trusts.
I'm struck by a different view. If we have 100k foreclosures in Ca this year, why worry? Almost double that number in the nineties did not lead to a bust. So why are current levels anything to worry about?

sa is right on the money!
