I can believe that. My Momma told me how my Grandpaw lost his job in Detroit because of the J-people. They came one night when he was little and CUT HIS PENIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh, so THAT's what J-people are. There are a million code words out there for that sort of attitude. I couldn't figure it out for a while. I even missed the point of the dancing in the White House comment. Just not looking for it, I guess. Still don't know what the mustard seed thing is but if it's from Kudlow, I don't care.
I am probably at the point where I would otherwise buy a new vehicle. My needs have changed; the old one is about 4 years old and getting to the point where I'll probably have to start doing more than just changing the oil. However the resale value has really taken a nose dive and I've got a pretty comfortable payment on the old one. So, while I'd like to be able to get a couple of more people in my car, I'll stick with the one I've got for another year or two...or who knows, maybe three or four and actually be without a car payment for a while. That's a novel thought. It does seem like on the highways around here over the past five or six years, old cars have pretty much gone away. Before then, it seemed like the mix of cars in traffic consisted of maybe 20% newish cars (less than 3 years old), probably 50% in the 3-10 year range and maybe 30% older than 10 years. I'd guess that these days 80% of the cars in traffic are less than five years old and probably no more than 15% over ten. Since cars are generally better made in the last five years; it seems like it's going to be at least three before there is any real pent up demand for new cars in my area.
I'm still holding onto my '93 F-150. Cheapest insurance & operating cost. With 90K miles with only oil changes and new filters every other year, it is now a curiosity to how long this beast will run. Seriously, no tune up, no major repairs, paint & body still hold a shine. Ford built a truck that does not need to be replaced and doing so built themselves out of business.

How about compared to the year before or to a three year average. Aren't we now comparing sales to sales during the early months of the recession? Aren't these figures skewed?
I want to buy a new car, but like so many other Gen-X'ers I'll be busy paying off student loans until I'm 40. Until then, I simply cannot afford a car payment. So it's a 5+ year old car for me, and I had to ride a bicycle to work for a year to save up the money even for that. I wonder if the reality and ramifications of unsustainable debt holdings is going to change how people think about our economic model or if they are simply going to sit in the angry stage of the grief cycle and make things worse.

He might also be slightly retarded, or should I say, intellectually challanged. Since he won't go away, the best course of action is to ignore him. Taking him on in any kind of serious debate, or simply bating him, for that matter, is a total waste of time, and only makes things worse.
....a democratic society is more prone to "mob rule". A republic has supposed "clearer" heads (representatives) making the decisions for US. - though it sure doesn't look like it now.

I can believe that. My Momma told me how my Grandpaw lost his job in Detroit because of the J-people. They came one night when he was little and CUT HIS PENIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Think owners of the world central banks at the time.
@nova - can you give a link to your homepage? I lost it in the clutter and can't wait to read more about the gardener.
huxley's "brave new world" will need a revamp if there are folks who don't know who/what Ford is
btw, the epithet from my (GM plant inflicted)childhood hometown wrt Ford (Found On Road Dead) is coming to fruition, je pense
wow
Shhh! Government officials are testilying today.

I wonder how many times will Geithner use the word "comprehensive" in his testimony?
90k on a 15 year old car? You don't drive it much. I have a 93 with 340k on it.
he keeps raising his fist while he's talking - what is the message I wonder?
It's the Benevolent Fist of Gov't.
Speaking of the BFoG, anyone seen AllenM?

Be very careful Michael. You know they are monitoring this board. Just looking for voices of dissent. Be very careful. I never post until after 10:00 pm sometimes. They are out looking for kids then like my GRANDPAW!!!!!!!!!!!!
They are no longer a concern to me. They are too busy putting out the fires they started and have no time or power to deal with people like me.
Geithner wants to be 'honest and candid' .. how bout starting at taxes?
just focus on the red herring...
HALO!!!!

On the global warming issue, it no longer exists. There have been no sun spots and low solar activity for the past 16 months, and global temperatures are now at 100 year lows.

Do a little research of your own.
You consider 2007-2008 data old with regards to ice formation and melting? Ah, now I see why you are so confused about global warming...
looks like he learned from his debut - this testimony is packed with details

Ford sales this bad. All their suppliers must be turning out the lights on the floor to save money.
Dryfly - and some others - made some good points about the death of the supply chain the other day.
yep - time to order the generator.
Luckily, I have one from last Dec.'s ice storm.......
Detroit squeezed its supply chain until there is nothing left. A short-sighted tactic that's come back to bite them.
"I am probably at the point where I would otherwise buy a new vehicle."
Or, you could try this exciting new anti-marketing idea. Keep the car for 20 years, while saving up to buy a good quality one-year-old car for cash. Fix the car yourself. Bank the rest of the money. Repeat. Works for me and the DH, we've never had a car loan.
Timmy is cracking me up. Talking loud, trying to act forceful, trying to sound like he has a pair. What he do, shoot some roids in his ass prior to his appearance?
Reminds me of the Lolly pop kids from the Wizard of Oz.
What can one expect from someone who looks and acts like beavis!
Wow. It is amazing how much better the "old" format (i.e. this one) is for posting to CR. Not to knock all the folks trying to come up with a new solution, but I wish the js-kit folks would come to their senses and fix Haloscan instead of replacing it.
Meanwhile, mad props to CRbot for coming up with this.

I'll say it again, if this is the 'old' system...LEAVE IT!! I love it!
How about compared to the year before or to a three year average. Aren't we now comparing sales to sales during the early months of the recession? Aren't these figures skewed?
I got a Toyota truck that is 21 years old. Never had to do anything other than change the oil etc...
Still get notes left on the windshield asking if I want to sell it.
Why such hate for America?
Nova -- LOL!
I think that Timmmay has wax in his ears because he never answers the questions asked.
He is doing a less than stellar job. How did this dude get to be a Cabinet Secretary again? He sounds like a petulant little kid.

CR- can you ban Micahel.. his antisemitic rants are embarrassing and do not reflect well on your fine website.

The J-People did! They're behind everything! The J-people are responsible for half my family being meth addicts and they're the reason I chose to fix up my sweet ride instead of saving for college. Those damn J-people, always responsible for those things a normal person would attribute to their own bad judgment or luck!

Michael is obviously a self-righteous, racist, self-appointed moral arbiter, who regurgitates centuries-old propaganda because it makes him feel somehow superior. He might also be slightly retarded, or should I say, intellectually challanged. Since he won't go away, the best course of action is to ignore him. Taking him on in any kind of serious debate, or simply bating him, for that matter, is a total waste of time, and only makes things worse.
Fly.. You fools!
when does the m 2 m question get asked? you know it's coming -
Dude talking right now must have just finished lunch because it sounds like he has a mouth full of mashed potatoes.
Timmay describing how our glorious nation will better manage its collective farm for the benefit of its glorious workers. A new workers' paradise!
....a democratic society is more prone to "mob rule". A republic has supposed "clearer" heads (representatives) making the decisions for US. - though it sure doesn't look like it now.
IIRC, in his book, Democracy in America, de Toqueville posited that the US might deteriorate into a "mobacracy", and curiously, if it didn't, it would be because of the strength of our women. Rather forward thinking for a European male of that era, or perhaps even today
Geithner sure doesn't know how to answer a question.
This sales level, at least for Orange County CA, works out to 2 sales per month per OC dealership. I know this is an average, but still, how can a company survive on 3-5 sales per month, per dealership?
AHHHHH........Geithner preaching about tax evasion safeguards. Well, another case of fox in the hen house.....the thieves working as bank tellers....he is an extreme embarrassment to this administration....The IRS to fill out the tax return for citizens??? You've got to be kidding!
