Philly Fed State Indexes: We're all Red States now!

Do you think they eat a lot of cheesesteaks at the Philly Fed?

China should be proud of us.

Cheesestake Pizza on Fridays!

I guess we know the bottom is in for this chart.

I knew someone would get around to the bottom comment before I did.

Now, how long will it slide along the bottom?

good for a 300 point bounce on the dow Smile

I add 1 point,   301 +  on the Dow

Well according to the astrologers...er, uhm, I mean, Wall Street 'Chartists', "we're getting resistance at this point in the chart, therefore, based soley on the chart - and ignoring all economic fundamentals - we should begin upward movement".

?

Damnit, we need more regulation of talk radio.

"Damnit, we need more regulation of talk radio."
NO! We don't need regulation of free speech in any form, including talk radio, speech codes, and civil disobediance!  We've already lost too many rights; we need to be fighting to get them back, not colluding with either party or government to take away more! And to think I once respected your commentary Sad

I pronosticate that the last chart has bottomed.  Yes, friends, I declare a clear bottom (for that chart).

Could go negative when they sell N. Dakota to raise more money for citibank.

If you look at that last chart as a rhythm pattern, it looks like it's about to go up. Otherwise it puts the whole pattern out of whack. Nature loves rhythm. Another bottoming indicator in my scratch pad.

when I look at 2nd chart at the right angle first thing that pops to mind:  boil, boil, toil and trouble !    this is my MacBeth chart

"I guess we need to hoard food!"
....."I've already started and the garden is looking good to."

Being a Master Gardener and donating time at the Univ. Extension Office in that field, I've noticed a number of differences here:
* 3-5X as many gardens have sprung up throughout the valley.
* Most of the increases (80-90%) are being tended by the retired and Latinos (in that order).
* Many more older gardens were being replanted (after being fallow for 5+ years).
* Many more larger gardens tended to (1+ acres).

Over the past year our population has decreased approximately 4% (37K to 35.5K)

Tons of gardening/food production interest in our corner of WA state. I'm getting spammed with requests from people to consult on garden planning, canning, backyard flock keeping, contract meat production, etc. I'm really glad to see the interest & hope people get into it as a lifestyle, not just a one-shot.

And if they do, which Cheesesteaks? Pat's or Geno's?

I hope not the ones with cheese whiz.  The thought of those make me cringe-

"....we need more regulation of talk radio."

....and bloggers as well.

If Obama doesn't turn things around that's what the next electoral map will look like.

I guess in the end Bush was a uniter and not a divider.   hehe

I see a red chart and I want it painted black.

That's not going to happen for awhile though. Too many people still trying to hide their bad bets -- when all of it comes out in the open -- for you and I to scrutinize, verify, and easily understand (and thus regain our shaken investor confidence), then we will have reached bottom.

"I see a red chart and I want it painted black."

How many caught the reference?

Maybe it's a bottom with a nasty diaper rash.

I'm going long Communist ETF

Note:  The graph goes to zero to better illustrate the actual change.

General Motors' bondholders need to make sacrifices to lay the groundwork for a restructuring of the company that would avoid bankruptcy, a senior White House adviser said on Tuesday

Good idea now lets see the bondholders of the thieving frigging banks get the same treatment.

Actually, years ago I had business in Philly and found the Philly Soft Pretzels better than the cheesesteak.

And since we're now at the bottom of this chart, we're going to see a flatline going forward.

How appropriate.

I have a great idea. If Obama can force the CEO of GM to resign, why doesn't he use his immense power and influence to get rid of the college bowl game system and replace it with the long-awaited, and much wanted play-off system? Such an endeavor would put us on the road to recovery.

I hate this js-kit stutter.

what is beyond red?

MUSTARD SEEDS FOR EVERYONE........I Cool 'M lARRY KUDLOW & I APPROVE OF THE MESSAGE

I don't see DC on the map.  That means we're still in the money here - I hope!

BTW, contrary to legend we just live here - we are no more politically connected or influential in national politics than anyone else - less so since we don't have representation.

P.S.- the spell checker doesn't work.

Dozens of workers facing the sack at a factory run by U.S. company Caterpillar Inc detained four managers on Tuesday and demanded further talks on the announced layoffs, a union official said.

Kenya, Egypt, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka are expanding? What's their secret?

Speaking of bonds and bond holders.  Mish had a pretty interesting take on the the Geithner plan and  how it might be a ruse by Pimco and Blackrock (Pimprock) to keep the bond market whole and find an even bigger sucker.  Game theory at its finest! BBAD always lose!

"Widespread recession". Careful there, you almost broke the second rule of economists: Do not EVER say the word Depression or you'll be accused of blasphemy!

What  happened to the data in these releases? In the past I have found discrepancies in the selection of chart colors relative to the data.

<sarcasm> It's clearly a reference to the Dresden Dolls' "Jeep Song"

Maybe it's time to offer a little more granularity in the measure.  Like -5 to -8%, -3 to -5%, -1 to -3%.

It looks like Peru, Syria, Panama, Egypt, Bangaladesh and Sri Lanka will save us.

In any case, if wanting to avoid unpleasantness one can always plead 'grammatical gender'. For example, in Italian the world for hotel is in the masculine. It doesn't mean that only men can stay at hotels in Italy.

But what I really want to say is that when you can write great literature you can assume the right to change the language. If all you can write is tracts, better and humbler perhaps not to try.

There's a huge difference between great literature and a political agenda.  In fact, the previous sentence is one of the few I can think or offhand where the two actually fit into the same sentence.

"Pavel, what gender is God?"

We'll find out when we meet Him. Meanwhile, I will continue to use the traditional pronoun, and so will many millions of others.

"Tons of gardening/food production interest in our corner of WA state."

And elsewhere - probably everywhere.

Will the index go negative if we include Puerto Rico, The Virgin Islands and Guam?

Asking "what gender is God" is a meaningless question per Aristotle. Questions about the nature of something are impossible to answer unless you have positively determined its existence.

There are some efforts here in Detroit to get some urban gardens going - but so far not too much. On the plus side there is plenty of land no-one is using. A major problem, though, is that people have forgotten how to grow things or basically to do anything to take care of themselves. What this place needs is a few boatloads of immigrants with agricultural backgrounds.

...not even the former Soviet Politburo could have accomplished this.  Red as far as the eye can see!

The phrase THE ENEMY WITHIN indeed acquires a new meaning uner these circumstances.  We have no one to blame but ourseveles.   I miss a lot those old days when you can always blame everything on those bastar red communists!

"Questions about the nature of something are impossible to answer unless you have positively determined its existence."

When one is relieved of at least some part of one's spiritual blindness, the question of gender becomes unimportant. But Christians do believe and proclaim that God as true God and true man did walk among us on Earth, and His gender then was male. As for the rest, it is wonder, adoration and praise. All is resolved and fulfilled in joy forever.

"...not even the former Soviet Politburo could have accomplished this.  Red as far as the eye can see! "

Well, they could see as far as their dachas, anyway.
