Drucker on Bubbles

I just graduated (M.S, Math) from Claremont Graduate University (home of Drucker the man and the Peter F. Drucker School Of Management) this spring. Sadly, I never met him. He turned up here and there at School of Management functions, but most of the SoM's stuff wasn't really open to the wider student population.

Reading about him and talking to people who knew him, it sounds like he was a wonderful man and a competent, responsible businessman. I'm sure he will be missed by many.

Now if only Newt hadn't been the person to salute his leadership qualities...I feel shut down.

Mike, do you know Dr. Hoste? I know him pretty well.

Best Wishes.

excuse me but what exactly has changed from the quotes ?

CR,

No. I might have briefly met him at a seminar or something, but, if I did, I don't remember.

I was the guy who sent out the weekly 'calendar' e-mails that said who was going to be speaking at the Topology Seminar (which was organized by Dr. Hoste), the Applied Mathematics Seminar, the Topics In Underwater Basketweaving Seminar, etc., so I think I traded e-mails with him occasionally (probably after I screwed up the info. for one of his seminars, or if I was late getting out the calendar).

If I'm not mistaken, there was an REU at Pitzer this summer, and I think Dr. Hoste had a large role in that. Because of the REU, there was a series of summer colloquium speakers, including Ron Graham, which of course, I missed, having just graduated.

Bloomberg's Caroline Baum takes a last shot at Greenspan, noting that in his 14 years as Fed Head he's cheerleaded every proposal to reduce our measurements of inflation, but he's NEVER explained his reasonings. Baum's always worth the read, even when she leaves us to fill in the answer,
In Greenspan's Math, Inflation Is Always Zero: Caroline Baum - Bloomberg.com

Thanks for the blog, I read it every day.

I've got a question, recently the Fed announced that it would stop publising stats on M3. Why on earth would they do this... I'm no economist so please go easy on men but are they tring to hide what they will need to do in future if the dollar falls?

"On March 23, 2006, the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System will cease publication of the M3 monetary aggregate. The Board will also cease publishing the following components: large-denomination time deposits, repurchase agreements (RPs), and Eurodollars. The Board will continue to publish institutional money market mutual funds as a memorandum item in this release.

Measures of large-denomination time deposits will continue to be published by the Board in the Flow of Funds Accounts (Z.1 release) on a quarterly basis and in the H.8 release on a weekly basis (for commercial banks)."

Great points by Drucker.

A curse on those who perpetuated the Piled higher and Deeper types in business, etc. etc.etc. --any where outside the degree awarded for long time
scientific research. They put a curse on this society

RyanOnTheBeach - I'm not sure why the FED decided to discontinue M3. Maybe it was increasing to quickly? (written with a grin!). I suppose they felt it wasn't useful anymore for some reason. I'm trying to find out.

Best Regards.

Trying to find more info on the M3 thing but coming up short.... I guess it's like the fannie may NYSE sotry...
