Russian crash is about oil. It's the only game they have in town, and it's gettin kicked in the teeth. It's also about capital outflow. Not lookin pretty there now. Next story there will be a property market bust (yeh, they have a ginormous bubble too)

The main problem with Russia is the way things were divided during the breakup of the USSR. Lots of traditional "Russians" got lumped into new countries and lots of non-"Russians" got left in Russia. They should had drawn the borders more on the nationality of the residents.
Folks just decided they'd forget about AIG for an hour or so. And WaMu.

Our economy is dependent on using it; theirs is dependent on selling it (and indeed, the mid-80s oil glut hurt the Soviets very much, and oil was just about the only thing keeping them going during the Brezhnev years)
