The Manhattan office market, far and away the largest in the United States, is showing signs of strain under the weight of the ills suffered by the financial sector, according to real estate services company Cushman & Wakefield.
Banks need cash, and auto sales down, asphalt up, shingles up, houses down...
A research report released Tuesday by Keefe, Bruyette & Woods Inc. says banks would need to raise as much as $30 billion in new capital to cover a further sharp downturn in credit performance.
Lexus puts in a substantially weaker performance than forecast. Looks like the aspirational buyer crowd (think realtors, mortgage brokers, financial industry parasites) is taking the biggest hit, with big ticket items getting hit hardest.
New twist on the new economy. Save the auto industry - Bring back the Yugo.
Amazing what a coupe of engineers can do. I wonder how many thousands of engineers Ford has right now spending more time contemplating why this can't be done.
Does that mean we are all gelding now?

I think the PC term is 'sensitive'...
BTW my 'four wheeler' buddies & I are ECSTATIC that the SUV craze is over... the few suburban amateurs who ventured out in their $40K plushies were a huge hazard & nuisance. Good riddance.
The estimate wasn't off, it was just that someone made a typo and inverted the numbers. Yeah. That's it. They meant 21% decline all along, the 12% was just a mis-print...
This shows that the high price of gas is not just hurting the SUV/Truck market. ItÂ’s putting a big dent in consumer spending overall. If we start driving less, we will not need to buy as many cars because we save on wear-and-tear. It will also mean fewer oil changes and repairs. Definatly a benefit to our atmosphere.
"SUV sales were base(d) on the concept of Machismo."
Absolutely correct in large part, at least insofar as the shopping mall cowboys and cowgirls in their giant 2wd Expeditions and Escalades. However, believe it or don't, there are people who bought them not because they were concerned about their pintos (brazilian translation) but because a correctly configured SUV provides the capability of doing things that passenger cars can't. In my case, that means hiking in up in the mountains in Colorado. Plenty of mountain roads are impassable to everything but high-clearance vehicles with low-range 4wd gearing, and my Isuzu Rodeo offers exactly that. In addition, its stiff truck suspension and collapsible rear seats means I've been able to transport many tons of rock, dirt, and lumber for house projects, and a conventional sedan would not allow me to do that. Not to mention the 4wd means I've never once gotten stuck in the snow here in Michigan. No, I don't complain about gas prices and mileage; I knew exactly what I was getting into when I bought it. It's been the most practical, useful car I've ever owned, and I'd be very disappointed if vehicles like it disappeared completely from the market.
a Friend of mine recently got in line for a Prius. Estimated wait time is about 3 months if you aren't picky about color. And forget about trying to get a deal on price. The dealer laughed at her when she tried to negotiate.
DaimlerChrysler turned in a 4% monthly rise to 193,108 vehicles. The Chrysler side rode the strength of nine new models, including the Dodge Charger and Jeep Commander, to a 4% increase to 175,556 cars and trucks.
Has anyone seen where we're looking to end up on the annual rate for June? I had mentioned on a previous thread that I thought the idiotic GM SUV incentive would boost sales. Looks like it did a wee bit but Im thinking we still might hit the 12s on the mil unit rate. But Im still going to say 13.5 to 14 is more likely, especially seeing the chrysler numbers.
Toyota can always sell more Priuses, more Yarises, more Corollas, and cut back on the big trucks and SUVs that they developed for the American market primarily. They have the ability to reapportion their production among current product lines and do okay. And they will.
But GM, Ford... how many economy models do they produce that anyone wants?
GM has flirted with the Chevrolet Volt for a very long time. Seems a year doesn't pass without yet another release expressing the company's "commitment" to the project and yet another image of a Volt concept or prototype.
I'm not as interested in the dull, small cars they do make as I am in the dull, efficient cars they keep promising to offer "soon".
GM: 60% Of June Sales In Last 10 Days Vs 50% Usually
Im a bit slow today, but wouldnt this mean that they sold 50% more cars in that last 10 days period than in the first 20 days of the month? And without that last minute incentive program, their sales would be 80% of what was actually reported? So, next month, you can kiss those extra sales goodbye. Just wait until they report July. That should be a hilarious figure.
First thing, the Rodeo isn't really that big so you're hardly the machismo target audience, and secondly they won't quit making that sort of vehicle, they may well stop decking them out like the Queen Elizabeth along with the corresponding overcharges.
Speaking of the luxo interiors, I assume your rocks and dirt are bagged?
What we all really need is a revival of the IH Scout with the Nissan Turbo Diesel. The ones out there are getting pretty rusty and even at that not easy to talk the owners out of.

I'm just curious where the line item in the budget is for these guys. How much do they have to work with? Is is approved by Congress or is it part of the "Black Budget"? What about overseas markets-is there a comparable group in Japan, UK, etc.?
Just wondering is all..
Anyway, Happy Canada Day! Have a Tim Horton doughnut and a Molsons on the Canadian PPT (they're off for the holiday, but they told me to pass the word).
Oh what a feeling.
Im turning japanese I think I am turning japanese i really think so...
Zirp Zirp and away.....
"A little worse" Yeah, just a bit.
How much of the decline is due to SUVs and minivans?
CR, per Argento on the last thread, the better number is down 11.5% year over year:

Poor babies, it couldn't happen to a nicer bunch of pricks.
Isn't Toyota the largest Truck-maker of the big Japanese firms?
Toyota is very much an American manufacturer. Worst of both worlds, the high value engineering offshore and the cyclical production here.
rather OT, but maybe not

Here in Pacific Palisades I can't help but notice that the cars are not quite as shiney and new as a few years ago.
Of course, this has nothing to do with the end of MEW, because everyone here has enough pocket change on hand to always pay cash.

Hmmm, car washes must be hurting, too.
