How is Tanta?

Thanks for the update. Tanta is a treasure. Many of us were concerned, but felt it too intrusive to poke our noses in.

Get well soon. Thanks for the knowledge.

I wish Tanta continued luck and recovery. She's a classy chick and a great teacher.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery to the amazing Tanta.

Tanta, get well soonest back to your bad old self!

Wish her my best - I have family with back issues, quite severe - I understand.

Hope you feel better soon, Tanta. Let the mortgage pig tuck you in. All the best.

Oh sure. She probably got a job at Countrywide. Smile

Thank you for the update. I hope she is feeling back to normal soon, we miss her (can't believe it's only been a few days!)

Please give Tanta my best wishes and try to take it easy.

Brian P

Next time you talk to Tanta, tell her all the bears wish her a speedy recovery.

Best wishes and prayers, Tanta

Awgee

Thanks for the update, and I hope she feels better soon.

I've been working at the computer standing up the past three days because I threw my back out. Believe me, I sympathize.

We're big fans of Tanta in our house, and wish her health and all good things. She's a fire-cracker, that one.

Markel, I know people are concerned - and I asked Tanta yesterday for permission to post this information.

She is my friend - and a teacher to all of us - and I admit I worry about her at times. And I also know she'd prefer people didn't worry ... but what can we do?

Hopefully she will be back posting more frequently soon. Tanta is so smart - and so funny - usually one sentence is all that is needed. Like this gem:

"The rhetoric of this Bloomberg report has to be read to be believed. Apparently, Fannie and Freddie have power make benefit glorious Nation of Jumbo, and they're blowing it all on people with downpayments in non-bubble markets instead of single-handedly throwing themselves on the grenade to Save the Housing Economy."

Best to all.

I'm new here, I thought Tanta was CR.

hugs for Tanta

Wouldn't want to be without her insights.

Strength to Tanta.

Vote for Pedro.

Any news on the housing bailout bill?

Feel better, Tanta. Nobody writes long posts like you.

w've never met her in the person but feel, on a certain level, she is close to us. Tanta we miss you and hope and pray you feel better.

Tanta, it is an accomplishment to be missed...get well soon.

Just imagine what she might do with a super-duper VRS and VTP program - the uber-posts would be humongous while providing relief for the back pain.

Today is one day; and, one day at a time.

Warmest to her. Hat tip to CR for the civility and compassion.

Best wishes for a full and speedy recovery.

Get well soon.

On a practical note - if you haven't experimented with speech recognition lately, give it a shot. What's built in to Vista is surprisingly useful, and it means you can experiment with non-desk ways of using the computer.

Outsider writes:
Oh sure. She probably got a job at Countrywide. Smile

Heck, that'd make even me think about going long BAC!

I remember when Tanta was just a regular commenter. Promoting her to Robin was one of the best moves CR ever made.

Tanta is a superstar -- I've looked for a photo of her but can't find one. Are there any posted?

Here's to all the biotechs/pharmas that are working to beat cancer!

Get well soon, Tanta!

I also look forward to the day when America replaces supply-side economics with Tantanomics.

Here are the top 10 concepts of Tantanomics, as best as I can summarize them:

  1. Mandatory daily Pledge of Allegiance to Krugman.
  2. From now on, everyone pays all cash for real estate.
  3. Increase property taxes 100% on Gretchen Morgenson.
  4. All U.S. citizens to get their own tip jars.
  5. National Free Gatorade Program (Original flavor only).
  6. Need more money, Kemosabe ( . . . oh, sorry, that's Tontonomics).
  7. Joseph Stiglitz replaces Thomas Jefferson on the $2 bill.
  8. Read more . . .

Get well soon, Tanta. Your wit and wisdom are dearly missed.

Kevin- All the pictures I see of Tanta on the internet have a striking resemblence to Santa Claus.

Maybe one day they get a New Back Store at the mall. Until then, it is brutal to deal with a bad back. My humble advice is to do pull-ups. I used to have back pain, but, since I started doing pull-ups, no more thrown out backs. Plus, the women love the biceps. And my sequined jump suits.

Adding my voice to the chorus: I don't post much, but I devour her posts with a fine tooth comb.

I raise my glass (of milk) to her recovery and better health.

I hope you feel better soon Tanta - we are developing a new position for you as global Mortgage Czar. Our offer remains open indefinitely and we hope you will find the courage to save us from ourselves.

CR:

your post concerning Tanta is too long.

I've looked for a photo of her but can't find one. Are there any posted?

Kevin, this is the only known photo of Tanta. She makes herself rather scarce.

Get well soon, T!

Sincere best wishes to Tanta.

Tanta,

I miss you, really; no one ever gave me shit like you!

FYI: Robert Frost received so many honorary degrees that someone decided to take the cloth from some of these academic robes and make a patchwork quilt.

  1. Poets need not go to Niagara to write about the force of falling water.
  2. The brain is a wonderful organ; it starts working the moment you get up in the morning, and does not stop until you get into the office.

I hear bongwater and goat meat are good for back pain. Get well soon Tanta!

seriously though, hope you're feeling better soon Tanta.

LOL.

This canadien is a funny guy. No wonder we Americans poach all their comedians.

tanta is like my german auntie.

i miss them both

My best to Tanta as well. Internet writers with wit and verve are all too rare.

Tanta, best wishes for continued recovery. You are a valued internet resource.

Get well and come back soon to kick Austin Goolsbee's ass again.

To your health. TPTB are quivering for when Tanta reloads her bow and takes aim.

Regards Tanta. You are missed.

Get well Tanta, you taught me more than my first girlfriend, and it was almost as much fun.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery, Tanta! We miss your wit and wisdom (including your snarky attitude to those that deserve it - yeah, I'm talking about you GM). And, while you may not want us to worry about you, we do because we care.

I hope the Kindle is working out well for you! I hope you find some fun stuff to read while you are away.

We are patiently waiting for our next lesson. I will send you some good energy.

Glad you posted some news about Tanta.

I've considered writing and asking, but I do realize the subject is (somewhat at least) off limits.

CR, thanks for the update. I too felt bad asking -- and nearly fell out of my chair when I read the Borat line. What never ceases to amaze me is how Tanta understands what is funny on such a deep level. I mean, there's a lot of snarky people on the Internet that Get It, but nowhere -- and I mean nowhere -- is it woven into such authoritative articles.

I recently read a description of what makes an exceptional blogger on a site I enjoy called volokh.com. One of the crew remarked that it's far better for a bloggers to try to observe and understand what they are writing about, rather than regurgitating an op-ed-style piece that can be either agreed or disagreed with point by point. There is no question Tanta is the former.

So, looking forward to more Tanta (and yes, her occasional posting makes me happy because it means I only need to think "hope she is OK" instead of asking).

Tanta,

We're out here ... some of us are dogs because, hey!, on the Intertubes nobody can hear us bark.

But we love ya! And we miss you.

Come back soon,
NR

Hope you get well soon!.

Sounds like everyone has been jones'n for a Tanta fix just like me!

Hurry back, girl!!!

Contractors build one kind of community. Tanta and CR build another.

I can't believe all the aliases? I thought I was the only one?

Thanks CR....prayers and good wishes out to the girlprofessor..

Senator Barack Hussein Obama thinks what America needs RIGHT NOW is ANOTHER STIMULUS PROGRAM!! The dollar isn't deep enough in the hole. We need to dig the hole deeper, and bury it completely.

Why bother with theses stimulus packages and the rigor with parading these silly programs in from of the dupes. Just make them permanent, revolving monthly $100K checks. Everyone gets to be a millionaire, not just someone on a TV game show and athletes.

I LOVE IT! What does Volcker say?

Just to add to choris, wishing youcontinued strength and success with your recovery.

Tanta rocks!.

Lee, in Santa Rosa

I wish her well. I wish her posts were shorter.

Here's to wishing Tanta UberHealth™. If she needs anything I've lots of meds left over from my recent adventure. The yeellow stripy ones turn you more orange than Mozillo and the flat pink ones, well... they make you think like him too.

Rebates should help 'level the playing field'. If you are making less than 100K, the government should hand out the difference as a rebate!

All I want is two chickens in my pot.

what everyone else said...

Best wishes Tanta.

Waiting patiently for her LONG posts.... and snark.

Thanks for sharing. Obviously, many of us have grown rather fond of you two.

Best,

Allen C

Get well soon.

Tanta,

Be good to yourself....

I always picture you as that one gal in my management classes, oh, so many years ago, who smoked, drank her whiskey "Neat", swore creatively and was so damned smart that on the first day of class, we all knew when That Girl walked into the classroom that

(1) there was one less spot for the rest of us on the top rung of The Bell Shaped Curve and

(2)asking her for a date would only bring a raised eyebrow, coupled with a smirkful look of disdain.....

Tanta, you are one special Lady!

Thanks for the update, CR. My prayers and thoughts are with Tanta.

She is a treasure and an inspiration.

Tanta, have a Happy Fourth! And, if you feel up to posting ... there are a number of issues crying out for your analysis!

Get Well, Tanta SOON. Big slobber 'cause I'm actually a dog in real life.

We need you for presnident!

(btw, Tanta's too cool for pix, way too cool.)

This is supposed to be the ultimate blogger's chair. Hope it helps.

:-]

I wish Tanta well, even when we disagree I feel that I have learned a bit more.

Now we bgin the overt stages of this crisis as oil exerts an immense shock on the entire economy.

I find that we have forgotten a ton of lessons that we freely hand out to others.

The price the common man shall pay for the folly of the decision making classes.

Now comes the part that makes me wonder what kind of country will emerge from this disaster.

Oil should have broken this week, the new highs will now begin to whip through the economy at lightspeed as the refiners begin to capitulate to the market price by buying and running that expensive oil. Instead the stock market started breaking down rapidly.

I am now forced to believe that events have gone beyond what the fed can control, and our congress has forgotten the depression playbook.

Massive aid is necessary to states undergoing the housing collapse. California needs $10 billion (maybe $20? right Dawg?), Arizona needs $2 billion, and other states need like amounts (Florida is another state that needs billions, but I have no idea how much it will take to stabilize state finances!)

Geez, I saw on yahoo finance today a video that advocated nationalizing fannie and freddie.

How far the crisis will go is anybody's guess, but maybe we should look at all that has happened in the last year.

Obama is going to have a difficult 100 days.

Someday this war's gonna end...

Best of wishes to Tanta. I pray she recovers soon. She's a classy gal who's contributed so much to all of us through her posts.

Get well soon!

Remember the Magnum PI double episode, co-staring Sharon Stone and her evil identical twin sister ?

Tanta played her twin, in scenes where both characters were on camera at the same time.

As one of my friends said after watching the episodes, "Sharon Stone has an identical twin sister ? There IS a God !!! "

Best wishes for speedy recovery to the Dorothy Parker of financial writing.

Tanta, without your insights, I continue swimming in the Sea of Knowledge, emerging completely dry.

Thanks for the update, CR. Wishing you both a very happy Fourth.

Personally, I find a slug of whiskey is the best thing for back pain. And if that doesn't work, then another. Sooner or later everything fades away....

I have missed the UeberNerd posts greatly.

Yea, really take care Tanta, all look forward to hearing from you again.

Wish Tanta and everyone a happy 4th of July, despite all the doom and gloom in the world.

Let's hope

  1. Tanta gets well,
  2. Bush and Co. leave office without starting another war,
  3. The country comes to its senses and never elects another Bush,
  4. The crisis is solved without anyone attacking Iran, otherwise the Middle East is toast, and so is my pocket book with $8+ gas.

OK, these are my 4 wishes before the 4th of July weekend.

Please feel better soon, Tanta! Thank you, CR, for the update.

Hope you feel better soon!

Waiting for more spreadsheet art!!

My wife knocked over my bong two days ago.... I thought of you Wink

Hope you feel better!

God bless.

Tanta,

This is me ask'n you to both get well and return:

Take Care Tanta and have a Great Fourth of July.

(You too CR.)

Best wishes and God Bless, Tanta.

Get well soon. Your work on this web site is always very valuable.

Tanta is one of a kind.

Tanta,

Seems your pain was our gain.

It appears unlikely if you were not on extended medical leave you would not have written all the those uber posts.

Speaking for myself (if not others), knowledge of the intricacies of MBS, loan underwriting etc would be limited or non existent.

Many years ago, my wife went thru two gruesome years of intensive chemo and radiation, while I was in grad school. In reflection, those hard times brought us closer together and strengthened us.

Thank you once again for all the informative insights that you have shared here. Hopefully the others wisecracks "made" each of your days.

One side of me says, get well soon.
The selfish side thinks, there will be less uber nerd posts !!

regards

sbarrkum

Tanta,

You have many grateful fans, and I'll happily admit to being one of them.

If you posted an Amazon (or equivalent) wish list of items that might bring some physical or mental relief while flat on you back in pain, we would happily bury you in gifts.

To continued and even greater progress [clink]!

And don't let the blog wear you out. We value whatever you can contribute.

It was a dark and stormy night. Another Gretchen article had just hit the wires. If not for the fearless clarity of Tanta, surely the market would be lost.

Get well hon, there be many dragons awaiting your mighty sword and pen.

I read all these nice posts, but come on back soon Tanta, nostalgia isn't what it used to be.

Tanta, one strong woman to another, it takes a special something to command male respect at all, let alone in a male-dominated environment. You rock.

Here's what you need to know. Everything you need is already inside you. Life is designed to heal itself - we all come with that feature built in. A good doctor will help your body facilitate what it already knows how to do.

Doctors told my aunt Sharon before her cancer surgery last year that she would be comatose for two weeks, in the hospital for months, and she'd never be able to speak or eat normally. That wasn't on her agenda and she refused to play it that way. She was awake and off pain meds in two days, talking in a week, home in two weeks, and eating solid food after a couple of months. The doctors refuse to accept what they see with their own eyes because it doesn't match their limiting beliefs. Next they said the cancer will come back. She said, "Okay. But not in my lifetime."

Tanta, you deserve excellent health and all the blessings that life has to offer. Enjoy.

Tanta, best wishes heading your way . . .

Thanks for the update.

All the best to Tanta... remission sounds good to me.

We have a close friend who has been through two bouts of cancer - a brain tumor and breast cancer. She is in fine health today and has been for quite a few years.

Looking forward to the next Tanta explication...

Onward, through the fog.

Just want to add my own wishes for a full and speedy recovery. We all miss you, Tanta.

Hope your recovery continues ((((Tanta))))

CR, Thanks. I didn't like to intrude.

Tanta, we look forward to brobdignanian posts - and to having them often!

. . . or even brobdignagian ones. heh.

I don't know why, but I have a feeling that Tanta will like this:

YouTube - Ma & Pa Kettle find uranium

Feel better soon!

Tanta, you're awesome; get well!

Crap! I hope the backpain isn't mets to her spine!

Tanta, I was beginning to compose a long admiring post. Lots of heartfelt praise. Lots of heartfelt gratitude for your amazing mind, style and intellect. Then I started to feel self-conscious that it might turn out cliched and lame-o. All I really want to say is God bless, get well soon, and prosper. Prayers.

I never had a penpal before,...it's so cool. I thank the miracle of modern technology that allows me to interact with a high caliber person. I'm not going to lavish any more praises, although I completely agree with those already sung, but as a sample of how deeply I've been affected, I can never listen to Abba "Dancing Queen" or any song off of Van Morrison's Moondance album without at least one thought of Tanta popping up. And at times it seems like CR stands for the Church of Reason. If one measure of a person's life is how many other lives she's touched beneficially, well, that cup is is overflowing.

Tanta has greatly enhanced my understanding of finance and economics, especially as it relates to real estate. Given the current situation in the US, this has been quite valuable. It has made a meaningful contribution to the financial well-being of my family. And on top of that, I greatly enjoy reading her posts. Yeah, even the UberNerds! Get well soon.

Here, this is mortgage related:

Thanks, CR, for the update, I was wondering.

Tanta, I'm looking forward to more interesting, intellectually demanding & pleasurable (the quotes from various pieces of "literature" are wonderful) posts, ubernerd and otherwise.

I only wish we could have presidential candidate with your depth of knowledge in your field(s), mental honesty & sense of reality.

Tanta, best wishes for a speedy and full recovery. You're a treasure, and I always look forward to reading your unique style when I visit here. I hope you feel better soon.

I hope this passes as soon as can be, lama's got some reheated Thai food for thee.
(wow, that was bad...even for me)

Come back Tanta and slap us around!

Tanta,
I hope Vicodin and wine or Morphine and wine works better for your back than it did for mine. Nasty stuff over time.
Bad Backs SUCK! Pain SUCKS!
Take care with the "Cut and Run Surgery" docs.

Tanta:

Hopefully you come back to this extended get-well card.

Take care and I look forward to further education from the master.

Hang in there.

Tanta,
The way you beat a bad back is with a whip, but then it only hurts more.

Laughing with a bad back is almost as bad as sneezing.

Time heals all wounds, but pain makes you angry.

Don't be angry. Be happy that all these people care.

I hope you don't have to sleep sitting up in a chair tonight.

Tanta, Like most of us here I know what you are going through to some degree due to loved ones. Best wishes on a speedy recovery. Thanks for sharing so much with us.

Hello from France

i've been a daily silent reader here for several months now, and never post a comment before because of my poor english.
i didn't know Tanta's trouble.
Tanta, I wish you a real a long improvement and I want to thank you for all this good work tou do every day. THANKS THANKS THANKS.

Vincent

Prayers for Tanta's healing and recovery.

I hope that Tanta recovers from her remission. God forbid that it has come back. This may sound kind of wacky but given the value I place on Tanta's life, here goes. I'm one of those wackjobs who believes in certain herbal remedies to fight off and/or prevent cancer. One of the best things to stave this off is an indian spice called turmeric (specifically the active ingredient curcumin). Numerous studies have been done on this common curry (and mustard) spice but I totally believe that this is one of those herbs that truly works. I would be willing to even send her some (gratis given her value to this board) if a safe (and anonymous email) is provided.

My best wishes for your health, tanta!

Get well soon Tanta. We need your UberNer posts! Smile

Tanta, Best wishes for your fast recovery . We miss you.

Take your time recovering Tanta, we're keeping the intertubes warm for you.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge (and snark)!

Best wishes for a speedy recovery. My mother had cancer treatment and I know how the effects linger on for a while.

A voice of reason, we listen with care. We miss you, prayers will be said.

May a wave of the best muscle relaxers money can buy wash over you. Or a wave of whatever eases your pain - take care and take it easy!

and what sbarrkum said at 5:49

best wishes for a speedy recovery the world is not the same without you.

what, no eclairs?
someone go get this woman some eclairs!
best wishes for a speedy recovery

Thanks, CR. I believe that many of us wonder and worry, but don't ask you because we don't want to be intrusive. Tanta values her privacy as much as we value Tanta.

Tanta,
You scare the sh*t out of me, but I love you.

Also, keep telling those little f*kers if they even think of gettin' all malignant on yr ass again, yr gona sit them down and force them to read every one of your previous posts--one-after-the-other, with no pee breaks whatsoever.

Smile

Best wishes, Tanta, for a speedy recovery from your troublesome back and all else that ails you. CR's great analysis not withstanding, your knowledgeable posts are missed.

P.S. I highly recommend Dr. Andrew Weil's book, "Spontaneous Healing."

Get better soon, T-!
