This Week:
A Brief Primer on the European Crisis
Europe has repeatedly been successful at addressing its recurring liquidity crises with the help of other central banks, but it’s still an open question whether they can durably solve the solvency crisis without more disruption and more restructuring of both government debt and troubled banks. In my view, the hope for an easy solution is misplaced, and the likelihood of recurring disruptions from Europe will remain high.

The problem is not the currency, it's the balance of trade. You can't keep on sending big money to the small populations of the oil emirates. Not enough consumption--everything else is just symptoms.

My understanding is, "forming a government" refers to first, agreement of one or more parties ("coalition") to divide cabinet appointments by a PM, who will be elected from among the majority of MP seated and represented by the coalition. The nominee(s) may or may not be agreed at the time the coalition is formed by party "leaders."
::
NB. PASOK is the incumbent "socialist" party of Papandreou, Papademos, and Venizelos (PM pro temp) that negotiated the troika stuctural adjustment program (SAP), or memoranda of understanding, for each of the two previous "bailouts". PASOK lost seats from 6 May, which lost the party majority viz last general election.

But as Mr. Colbert’s satire suggested, the scrutiny may not be entirely a blessing for Mr. Romney’s image as a man in touch with the concerns of average Americans. As millions tune in to the Olympics in prime time this summer, just before Mr. Romney will be reintroducing himself to the nation at the Republican convention, viewers are likely to see “up close and personal” segments on NBC about the Romneys and dressage, a sport of six-figure horses and $1,000 saddles. The Romneys declared a loss of $77,000 on their 2010 tax returns for the share in the care and feeding of Rafalca, which Mrs. Romney owns with Mr. Ebeling’s wife, Amy, and a family friend, Beth Meyers.

sorry, dont see QE: fed will be fooled that low rates and cheap gas are stimulative (if history is a guide), and not see them as a result of low demand. they will await events in Europe, and more data (which is not worse really than last year, just not better). they might even point to green shoots in housing. they might tweak the language. i think a lot of the QE talk is more hope based; of course i certainly hope im wrong.

Will my Its not easy being green prediction become a reality after all?

Interesting watching India. Less external stimuli - fewer options. How will they battle stagflation?

The Reserve Bank of India left its policy repo rate at 8 percent and the cash reserve ratio at 4.75 percent, saying a rate cut now could "exacerbate" the country's inflation, the highest among industrialized or BRIC nations.

And On With The Great Game | ZeroHedge

India can not handle real deflation, but disinflation should provide great stimulus to production and consumption if they can pull it off. Falling oil prices and falling world food should do a pretty good job.

India should mandate iodine in the salt, and enrichment for the flours. But hey, if you want a society that is crumbling, keep on making bigger messes.

Someday this war's gonna end...

Someday, this war's gonna start.

Just so long as I am not short oil when it does.

Falling oil prices give a better chance to it than most, because of the immense pressures of rolling out the dole in most of the middle east.

No dole, no peace.

But hey, look at our insanity, thinking the rich can really be all that rich when there is no one to buy their riches at par. Suckerz.

Almost time to head off to the salt mines.

Think deeper folks, because as this goes outta control it is going to end up making a lot more changes.

Stability will come to the children, because they will prize it and repress those who get out of line.

These years are proof that control is gone, and we are living in reactive mode, rather than active mode.

Someday this war's gonna end...

re: "Have you heard anything from Tsirpas to indicate that he'd bargain for a cabinet office?" Pigged

Antonis Samaras headed to parliament, where he met with SYRIZA leader Alexis Tsipras at 2 pm and at 6 pm, he will talk with the leader of PASOK Evangelos Venizelos on the possibilities of forming a coalition government.

After the meeting, Alexis "Huey" Tsipras said that his party was "against the use of the term for communicative purposes" and that he supports the formation of a cabinet with New Democracy in the centre, as he "completely respects people's will." He noted that the period until 28 June, when the European summit will take place, is very important and said that SYRIZA will not hamper but will support any government actions relieving the austerity measures stated in the memorandum. SYRIZA leader rejected every opportunity to participate in the cabinet and even said that if his party received a mandate to form a government, it would not accept it.

Antonis Samaras promised a long-term cabinet
